Dublin D02 FY24.
The Cathal Brugha Street building was purpose built for educational use at that time. It has a brick and granite elevation to both Marlborough Street and Cathal Brugha Street. This property also includes a number of interesting features including art deco style windows, an elegant and stylish entrance hall and staircase and there are good floor to ceiling heights.
The Cathal Brugha Street building is a four storey over basement structure with an approximate gross internal floor area of 7,127 Sq. M. (76,712 Sq. Ft.). The property was constructed in the early 1940’s and is a protected structure in Dublin City Council’s Record of Protected Structures. It has been maintained to a very high standard.
The building is accessed directly from Cathal Brugha Street. A feature entrance consisting of limestone steps and solid oak doors set back in an Art Deco stone protrusion and surrounded by ornate leaded glass panels, sets the building apart from its neighbours. The entrance leads directly to the main reception/lobby area with terrazzo covered floors and octagonal piers of Connemara marble with Kilkenny limestone bases. From here access is gained to all floors via the main staircase and a passenger lift. The main focal point of the reception/lobby area is the Art Deco Imperial staircase with steel balustrade which spears the building.
The ground and first floors are larger in size as they take advantage of part of the rear extension to the Gresham Hotel. There is also an internal access route at ground floor level between this building and the Marlborough Street building, Lot 2. There is separate access to Lot 2 from Marlborough Street.
A variety of accommodation is available on all floors including commercial kitchens, classrooms, lecture rooms, laboratories, academic offices, common rooms, administration offices, library, stores and toilet accommodation. At basement level there is access to the Kathleen O’Sullivan theatre, which is a 129 seater tiered lecture theatre.
Data and power is surface mounted trunking throughout the building.
